African Modernism — The Architecture of Independence (Photo Exhibition Programme) — Goethe Institut

Accra: Museum of Science of Technology

07/08/2018

So, it was my fourth day in Ghana in the city of Accra. Earlier, I came across some events happening during my short stay in the Accra. Goethe Institut was having the Photo Exhibition Programme on African Modernism — The Architecture of Independence between 06/08/2018 — 27/08/2018 and Kumasi:blaxTARLINES, Project Space for Contemporary Art 07/09/2018–30/09/2018. Luckily, I passed through the museum on the 07/08/2018 after visiting earlier the Tudeh Black Market, Makola Market, Labadi Beach, Osu Castle & Ame Park, National Museum (under renovation) and the Art Centre with the company of Let Drive Taxi driver, Mr. Maxwell.

On arriving to the Museum, I met a man who came to my aid at the entrance (forgotten his name), he was a former Ghanaian Naval Officer, who recognized that I was a curious Nigerian tourist who came by the museum. He was a Curator at the Exhibition, so he took me round the two-floored very spacious museum as we spoke about the works showcased at the Exhibition, and his personal experience as a Naval Officer who was injured during war times and was brought to Lagos, Nigeria by one of Nigeria’s former. Military Presidents for medical treatment and how he enjoyed his stay in Lagos.

The pictures below, vividly shows so old objects and items which were preserved during and after the Ghanaian independence and other images.
