Got ‘Til It’s Gone
Poem (2023) — Seun Adeyemi
I have it in my hands
I’ve got the world in my hands
It fell out of my hands to the ground
Who has it now?
I’ve lost it
I had it with me
I can’t find it anymore
Lost, found, and lost again
Lack, need, want, and abundance
I don’t have it, no, I mean I have to find balance
Time in, time out
All things come and go
People come, people go
Memories gained and regrets lost
Under my watch, I think I have on time on my hands
Where’s it?
Time’s up and now time’s down again
Left, right, and it still left
How would I know what I don’t have
How would I know what I have
If it was just with me
I’ve got to have it
But I have to go now
Don’t leave yet
That’s just the way things go
